ذكرت هيئة الغذاء والدواء في السعودية في تغريدة نشرتها على موقعها الرسمي على تويتر أنه بإمكان الصائمين شرب عصير الفيمتو بشكل يومي دون وجود أي خطورة صحية، وهو ما أثار جدلا الكثير من المغردين بسبب احتواء العصير على السكريات التي تسبب آثار جانبية إذا تم تناولها بشكل يومي.

وقد عبر بعض الأشخاص استغرابهم من هذا التصريح حيث قال أحدهم “غريب هذا التصريح من هيئة الغذاء والدواء كنا نتوقع أن يكون لها حضور توعوي عادل، بعد الجدل الذي أُثير مؤخرًا، بحيث توضح الحقائق، نعم أنا ضد نشر الشائعات عن أي منتج، ومقبول من الهيئة تنفي شائعة عن منتج معين، لكن غريب انها تقول عن منتج مشبّع بالسكريات انه لا يشكل أي خطورة .. نهائيًا”

ونتيجة لهذا الجدل نشر موقع الغذاء والدواء في السعودية تغريدة أخرى قال فيها ” تحية طيبة، تقوم الهيئة بالتأكد من سلامة المواد المضافة لشراب التوت قبل تسويقها في المملكة، كما تنصح الهيئة بالتقليل من استهلاك المشروبات منخفضة القيمة الغذائية.”
وقد نتج عن هذه التغريدة أيضا المزيد من الجدل والشكوك فيما يخص الفائدة الصحية التي يمكن أن يجنيها الفرد إذا قام بشرب الفيمتو بشكل يومي في رمضان.

هذا ولم تكن هذه المرة الأولى التي يتم فيها إثارة الجدل بخصوص شراب الفيمتو، حيث تم تداول إشاعات قبل عامين تفيد بوجود ألوان صناعية في المشروب تحفّز إصابة الشخص بالسرطان، ولكن سرعان ما قامت الهيئة بنشر تغريدة تؤكد فيها مطابقة جميع المنتجات الغذائية المستوردة للمواصفات والشروط والمعايير الصحية المطلوبة.
